My name is Nikki Lee VanVoorhis. At age 23 I was diagnosed with a heart condition. I was living in Los Angeles, 3000 miles away from friends and family. I needed a way to cope with the stress and anxiety of having a serious medical condition. Yoga helped me. It wasn't until I was introduced to the Ashtanga yoga method, however, that I found a practice that truly resonated. The structure, stability, and integrity of Ashtanga yoga provided me with a much deeper connection to myself. It inspired me to make changes in my life, and to further my spiritual practice. I moved back home to Vermont. I worked on getting my health and life back. I met a boy, got a few puppies, and moved to Woodstock. Eleven years after being diagnosed with a heart condition, I am now owner/operator of YogaMari Vermont and teach Ashtanga yoga in a small, bucolic town in the southern part of the state. I am also the founder and co-writer of the yoga blog Finding Isvara, as well as an aromatherapy student at The New York Institute of Aromatic Studies. In addition, I craft small-batch botanical beauty products under the name of Lee & Lavandin.
I travel to Miami Beach, Florida to work with my primary teacher, Tim Feldmann. I had the honor of receiving my 200hr-RYT at Miami Life Center. A heartfelt thank you to my incredible husband Matt, who introduced me to this practice to begin with.
